Dify 2026 Hands-On: Build Your AI Super App from Zero to One
The king of open-source LLM application development platforms. Supports Workflow orchestration, AI Agents, RAG knowledge bases—a one-stop solution for all AI development needs.
If LangChain is a code library for programmers, then Dify is an AI factory for everyone.
As 2026’s hottest open-source LLM application development platform, Dify has become the go-to choice for enterprises building AI applications. It integrates model management, Prompt debugging, RAG retrieval, and Workflow orchestration all in one visual interface. Whether you want a simple customer service bot or complex automated workflows, Dify handles it with ease.
Why is Dify a “Must-Have”?
- WYSIWYG: Visual Prompt IDE—write prompts while seeing results.
- Model Agnostic: Want GPT-4? Claude 3.5? Local DeepSeek? Switch with one click—no business logic changes needed.
- Powerful Workflow: Like iOS Shortcuts, drag and drop nodes (Start -> Search Web -> Summarize -> Send Email) to build complex business logic.
- RAG Engine: Built-in complete pipeline for document splitting, cleaning, retrieval—even supports “hybrid retrieval” (Keyword + Semantic).
Deployment Tutorial (Docker Compose)
Dify’s architecture is complex (includes API, Worker, Web, Redis, Postgres, Weaviate, etc.). We strongly recommend Docker Compose deployment.
1. Prerequisites
Ensure Docker and Docker Compose are installed on your server. For local model running, ensure 8GB+ memory.
2. Get the Code
git clone https://github.com/langgenius/dify.git
cd dify/docker
3. Configure Environment
Copy the environment variable file:
cp .env.example .env
(Optional) Edit .env to configure ports or database passwords.
4. One-Click Launch
docker compose up -d
Wait a few minutes. Once all containers show status Up, visit http://localhost to access Dify’s admin dashboard.
Hands-On: Build an “Intelligent Research Assistant”
Let’s use Dify’s Workflow feature to build an Agent that can automatically search the web and write reports.
Step 1: Create Application
On Dify homepage, click “Create Application” -> Select “Chatflow” (conversational workflow).
Step 2: Design the Flow
You’ll see a canvas with only “Start” and “End” nodes. We need to add some magic in between:
- Add “Tool” Node: Select
Google SearchorTavily Search.- Input variable: User’s question (
src.query)
- Input variable: User’s question (
- Add “LLM” Node: Choose a smart model (like GPT-4o or DeepSeek-R1).
- System Prompt: You are an analyst, please summarize based on search results.
- Context: Reference the previous search tool’s output.
- Add “Direct Reply” Node: Display LLM output to user.
Connection logic: Start -> Search -> LLM -> Answer -> End.
Step 3: Debug & Publish
Click “Preview” in the top right, input “2026 EV industry trends.” Watch the Agent automatically search the web, then write a professional-looking analysis report.
When satisfied, click “Publish” -> “Embed in Website,” copy the JS code, paste into your company website—a professional AI consultant is now live.
Advanced: Connect Local Models (Ollama)
Want to use free DeepSeek-R1? Easy.
- In Dify settings -> Model Providers -> Ollama.
- Enter Base URL:
http://host.docker.internal:11434(since Dify runs in Docker, it needs to access the host machine). - Model name:
deepseek-r1:8b.
Now your Dify is burning GPU for free—no worries about API bills.
Summary
Dify’s greatness lies in lowering the barrier to AI application deployment. What used to require thousands of lines of Python code now just needs drag-and-drop on a canvas. If you want to promote AI within your company, Dify is absolutely the best entry point.
It’s time to say goodbye to hand-writing API calls. With Dify, build your AI empire like building blocks.
